ABOUT US
Our Journey Through the Years
Mothers In Action was born from a deep love for community and the belief that together, we can make a difference. Founded by a group of dedicated women—including Johnnie Tillman, Lillian Mobley, Mary Henry, Nola Carter, Gwen Green, Edith Abrams, and the late Brenda Marsh-Mitchell—MIA was established in response to the 1992 civil unrest. These women, alongside Danny J. Bakewell, Sr., were committed to God, family, and the power of a united community.
Their vision was clear: to uplift and empower our elderly, youth, and those less fortunate by fostering self-worth, dignity, and respect. Today, this vision continues to thrive under the leadership of our Board of Directors, which includes passionate individuals like Pamela Bakewell, Yvonne Wheeler, Fabian Wesson, Patricia Clarke, Brandi Bakewell, Danny J. Bakewell Sr., and Tracy Mitchell.
What started as a small group of devoted mothers has grown into a powerful movement. With over 5,000 members and volunteers, Mothers In Action is a vibrant community of caring citizens, businesses, and organizations. Together, we roll up our sleeves to carry out projects and services that bring essential resources to families in need.
At Mothers In Action, we believe in the strength of community and the difference we can make when we come together. Our story is one of love, commitment, and unwavering support for those who need it most.
